Tren Urbano: Jardines Station | ||||||||||
About the Area | ||||||||||
The Tren Urbano is a new star in our urban landscape. With time, we shall become aware of its revolutionary presence, and change our conventional image of the city by gazing at it from the train cars. A different city, at once fantastic and ordinary, will reveal itself to the train's passengers. Moreover, the Tren Urbano is a place, like the communities traversed by it. Passengers will use the train as an entry and exit point into daily life. To those who live in its vicinity it is a claimable landmark. Art proposed for this site must reconcile local character with the overall metropolitan scope of the route. Given the technical uniqueness of each station, proposed works should be limited to the sites specifically identified, which were selected after a thorough analysis of the operation. |

Technical description: Spores, a sculptural mural by Edgard Rodríguez Luiggi, outlines the evolution of nature up to the point of its figurative disintegration, reaching an abstract, surreal level. To accomplish this effect, the artist uses as a sort of refrain the concept of a "spore", or reproductive cell that breaks away, flies, and falls, giving birth to new flowers. These spores, suggested by semicircular forms scattered along the walls of the train, symbolize the origin of life, or the beginning of something to be constructed. Alluding to the sector's urban development, the artist extends his metaphor of growth to the processes of social regeneration. Through the harmonic relationship between nature and progress, the spectator will understand the use of the spore as a desirable model. Thus, formal elements will work to create a positive visual impact on the train's passengers through the effective use of organic forms, relief, dynamic lines, and strong color contrasts. |
