West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture was established in 1987. It is a team of urban planners, architects, designers and landscape architects under the direction of Prof. Ir. Adriaan Geuze. West 8 pursues an interest in interweaving contemporary culture, urban identity, architecture and public space into one project. It has embraced a hybrid and multidisciplinary approach, combined with an upbeat attitude about the environment, as a method to deal with complexity in design.

A leader in the practice of urbanism in Europe, West 8 has extensive experience in large-scale urban design and landscaping. Since 1988, the firm has developed international projects in Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Oslo, Paris, London, Barcelona, Zürich, Vienna, New York, Taipei, Seoul, and other cities.

For international projects, strategic alliances have been established with local managers and international engineering firms such as Bovis, Ove Arup & Partners, Arcadis, Techdata A.G., generating highly successful undertakings. Moreover, West 8 has a history of teamwork with internationally renowned architects such as Enric Miralles, Richard Rogers Partnership, Steven Holl, Dominique Perrault, Foster and Partners, Rem Koolhaas, Zaha Hadid, Renzo Piano, Hans Kollhoff, Josep Lluis Mateo, Maximillian Fuksas, Carlos Ferrater, MVRDV, Ben van Berkel and Herzog de Meuron.

Our philosophy lies in creating unique products, since each intervention requires a particular and understandable concept to achieve a unique identity. Our projects are not instant products. West 8 has always related its work to the local context, the history, the landscape and the ecology of the surroundings. Urban projects prevail above market criteria and political reality. In our proposals, design is not the only key parameter. Research, exploration, and socio-political applications enrich design and add multiple layers of quality.
